Celebrity Tax Problems With Lionel Messi - Did he hide the money?

Even God's Can get in Tax Trouble

Ahhhh, its soccer time again, errr futbol time, errr who really really cares, but we thought it appropriate to point out that FC Barcelona star and Argentine national team forward, Lionel Messi, was involved in a tax scam in Spain a few years ago.

Spanish prosecutors alleged that the (from what we're told) "best player in the world" made a bunch of money from 2006 through 2009 which he hid to evade paying taxes in Spain by routing the income through fake companies in Belize and Uruguay.Of course, Messi and his lawyers had a different version of events and basically blamed Messi's financial advisor for the tax mix-up.  The old blame the financial advisor routine.  How cliche.  Messi's punishment is another story though.  It probably didn't hurt that once he found out about the charges, he and his father paid 4.2 million Euros to cover the back taxes owed.  It also probably doesn't hurt that Messi reportedly is worth $115 million with an annual salary plus endorsements that pay him an estimated $41 million per year.  The questions is, if Messi already paid Spanish authorities the total amount they claim he owes, why were they still coming after him?  We have no idea.  It all sounds very European to us.

When you file your taxes, you have options on how to receive your refund. The best way to get it is by direct deposit.
